On Love, And Hotdogs

Contributed by Benny14 on Wednesday, 16th August 2006 @ 02:19:19 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

To this day man is incapable of accurately placing in words
Just what love means to us. We certainly have made valiant attempts
Ranging from Shakespeare to Freud, the musical to the mundane,
Far be it for me to argue one who would preach that love is naught
But chemical reactions in our brain concerning peptides acting
As neurotransmitters merely disciplining us to become accustomed
To a particular person.
All fine and dandy. I get it. Were walking chemistry sets run by
A trigger happy child who loves nothing more than to mix
As many wonderful and horrible concoctions as he or she can muster.
However, I call upon our knowledge and outlook of the
Hot Dog.
This is what love is to me, love is a hot dog. Wait, hear me out, its not
As crazy as you think. You see, you can try and give me the precise
Ingredients of a hot dog: cuisines natural smorgasbord,
Forrest Gumps box of chocolates in a meat disguise, foods melting pot,
America. But specifics and empirical explanation do nothing for me,
The point being: they taste damn good.
Who am I to demolish the magic in such things when the mystery doesnt matter?
Just as I know hot dogs will be delicious and juicy, fulfilling my inner desires,
So too do I know love is an exotic creature we have inherently tamed yet
Let loose in consistent fashion, much to our success and failure.
And damn does it taste good.
I am not ignorant of the lackluster origins of love or hotdogs, but I say with
Much pride that I certainly do ignore it.
They remain the rebels to our sensitivities, outlaws of scrutiny,
Perhaps cold and unnerving upon examination, but in a superficial
And imaginative way, they both maintain quality I cannot and will not
Discredit by focusing on the negative. I guess I am a believer in the fact
That we are not how we are created but how we can make an impact.
Hot dogs, you have taught me all I need to know about love
(Makes one wonder if condiments really are sexual innuendos, perhaps thats thought for another day however)
And love likewise has taught me to enjoy every damn bite.

Bravo, my friend. I think the message here is that half of beauty is in darkness, and I tell you, if people could get that through their heads a lot more relationships would last a lot longer. Mystery is all part of the way the universe is created. Great write.

and hotdogs.. lol
you've got quite the imagination Benny..
I think the analogy is superb.. and a little humerous as well - : P
