A boy and his dog went exploring in the wood Had the feeling of splendor and all things good
Throwing sticks and kicking rocks Splashing mud puddles and taking walks
Both did this each and everyday The boy and his friend loved to play
That day they ran and went up the trail The ending joy was about to avail
The boy went running in another direction His dogs ears perked up as if to listen
For impending doom for his young friend For the path he was on was about to end
The trusty friend ran after, but it was to late The ground gave way due to his weight
The young man fell down a ravine His fate that day could not be foreseen
His friend ran to the edge and looked down It seemed that time had slowed down
The young man was not moving His friends canine heart was breaking
He could not reach him He could not save him
After time past without his mate He felt lost and had to wait
His friend never came, over the years The dog waited by the ravine with tears
Waiting for his friend to return His company, the dog would yearn
As the years past and the toll time took The dog sat at the ravine and down he would look
For his friend he missed so badly Looking for him waiting so sadly His friend still waits to this very day

Sad story, but also teaches us how faithful a pet can be. Human frienship can also be like this, true devotion. Lovely, but sad read. Thank you for sharing. Sue x |

As humans we can take a daily lesson of learning from our pets, our dogs have so many qualities we could only hope to gain and live out in life.
THis was incredible and brought a tear to my eye. Your poem unfolded perfectly it was like I was there. Nicely done my friend.

I can't believe no one has yet mentioned that picture! It's absolutely adorable and in black white - divine! There's just sooo much in it... innocence, connectedness, loyalty, and yes! unconditional love. What a wonderful accompaniment to your words!
This piece will tug at the heart of any animal lover, I suspect. Gosh, and those that remember a beloved pup from their childhood will ache a bit for having had to let go at some point - at least I know I did.
~Snem
(who was also secretly wishing for a happy ending *sigh* but found that it was probably moving for the lack of one) |

An amazing, but rather sad write you have here. It brought a tear to my eye. It goes with a saying,"That dog is man's best friend." I totally agree with that.
The picture tops off a powerful and very well written poem. Keep up the magical work.
Hugs n prayers,

awww, so sad; reminds me of an old scottish tale, about greyfriars bobby (they made it into a film) this little scottie dog waited for years at the grave of his long dead master, as he was so faithful. So sad,
