man facing beast
hot breath from the cat
the man trembles
beast smells the man's fear
neither moves
man frozen
the beast picking
his time
the cat peering
into the man's soul
whiskers measuring
nostrils flaring
teeth long and yellow
tongue hanging out
eyes shiny
never blinking
saliva flowing down
his chin
the large cat
positioning to pounce
the man says
a prayer
