anguished

Have you ever wondered where you'd sleep at night or maybe with whom? Did you think you'd ever sell your soul just to get a room?
Have you dug your dinner from a trash can hoping for something good to eat? Did you think you'd get down this low Just to get your butt beat?
Do you wonder late at night where your loved ones are? Do you wish you had a job maybe drove a decent car? Is it just a hand that you need or maybe much more? Do your addictions or diseases keep you down and out poor?
Do you wish you could do things over or maybe never have started? Can you believe you've fallen in deep water bitter and uncharted?
Do you dream of better days maybe a life you once knew? Can you tell me how this happened to a brother and sister like you?
I am a little disturbed I admit a bit angered too. Living in a world of silicone and lies sure gives me the blues. People seem to care not about the homeless they just turn their heads away. Do you think they'll pay for their auspicious greed and be sorry some day?

This really touched me Doris... When I visited Washington DC last year I was stunned at the amount of homelessness, i was telling a friend at work about it (we both worked briefly in a homeless shelter a few years ago) the irony of all this is the western world is so called developed, and the problem is all over, even in small towns like the one I live in.
Till last year I'd never travelled outside the UK. I went to Paris in Feb and took a boat trip up the Seine, the guide was telling us all about the wonderful architecture, Notradam etc...along the river I noticed makeshift communities that would have no protection from the elements, it almost broke my heart...as the guide was waffling on I started to think "What about those poor B*******? don't they deserve a mention?, It's a sad refection when people are interested more in inaminate objects than human suffering.
Great writing.

the Bible teaches us to reach out and help to not worry about the persons intentions but people pass on by over and over never reaching out to help ...this is a strong write my friend

Ah Sis,
this gave me tears in my eyes. YOu captured this beautifully on such a sad and stressing subject. I have seen many things out on my travels. There were two times though that I will forever carry with me. One time in LA a woman with two little kids who had a couple big boxes put together that was home, I took them all kinds of stuff out of my truck and wanted to pick them up and take them along.
ANother time a nam Vetran, I cannot go into words to even scratch the surface, I cried we will put it that way. Gary being a vet himself it really tugged at him.
I hope one day things will change and there will be noone forgotten in this life.
Love your heart sis

I feel you pen has really hit a stride of emotionally evocative expressions... I feel real healing on the cuts & abrasions a good heart gets when simply brushing up against the broken edges of this world...
However your piece inspires some thoughts that I hope opens up a dialogue on how to solve the problem:
Our culture despises the indigent we toss coins in a cup or buy on the side of the road often out of pity. It is apathy and pity that many are cursed with. If you get scrutinized by the cops it is often with a monetary fine that others scoff at throwing money at such old revenue generating mechanism without reprisal. But the have-nots get crippled by such run-ins. I too have slept in my car between cities and jobs gratefully able to keep a vehicle on the road sometimes even without insurance... It can be tough as I would meet others in similar stations and many times reach for my last couple of bucks and split sharing as the nature of need on the streets requires a kind of triage.
Dear heart the questions you raise lead to more questions perhaps because we each have to come up with our own answers and therefore we can each help each other to have answers that make sense. It is our convictions we are taking shelter in and some peoples convictions exist at the point of exclusion to others.
Peace

This really touched me Laura..'cause of my son..he's one of the ones you write about. Sometimes, he gets clean and does ok..then he relapses and goes back into the street..as of now we have no idea where or how he is..or even if he's alive. We've tried again and again to help..but nothing we do ever works. He has a lot of medical and mental problems. It makes me sick that some restraunts poisen the food they throw away..just to keep the homeless from getting it...This country is so selfish. |

Dearest Laura as always you ascribe an outstanding poem that touches ones heart deeply. It's so sad that there are so many homeless people in this world. How much food do our big take away stores turf out? This particular subject is a touchy one.
You, dearest friend, Laura write from the depths of your beautiful heart and you are one person who can never turn a blind eye to the truth~
Thank you so much for posting this.
Take care dear sis,
hugs n prayers,

Very powerful and meaningful questions that you so eloquently express. A very moving write on a subject that deserves much more attention then it gets. This is certainly cause for reflection and action.
Thanks for sharing my friend
Well done Laura,
Will
