Try as I might to stay out of it's reach,
deep in my soul I know it'll stick like a leech,
thoughts like smoke twine through my brain,
and I know they won't stop , till I'm dead or insane.
Sick and sleepless , I sat all alone,
near the river , but tied to a stone,
dying with thirst as I wait there for my friend,
I know she'll be here to see me through to the end.
Now as I calmly walk towards my grave,
I pray she knows that till the end I was brave,
not for a second while the whole race was being run,
was I ever unsure that I would have the battle won.
