Pull out the bowls and cups,
Set out the flour, sugar, and salt.
Check out the recipe and measure up,
Follow the list without fault.
Sift, strain, and stir,
Combine and mix all things in.
The mixer runs with a whir,
Causing the bowl to spin.
Making bread, or rolls on which to sup,
Be it rye, wheat, or oat;
Enjoy the taste, gobble it up,
Use the butter or jam to coat.
Baking cookies, cakes, or pies,
Delicious treats on which to dine,
Careful now; the stomach can fool the eyes,
Perhaps enjoyed with the fruit of the vine.
Lovingly prepared by humble hands,
Rolled and pounded thin
Allowed to raise and stand,
Shaped and molded for anothers whim.
Metal, glass, and fluted pans
Greased, floured, and oiled,
Which will give the bread its golden tan,
Wrap it all for gifts in colored foil.

I never met my Grandmother. I guess though this is close to what I missed out on as I watch my children with my mum. |
