Since Brig Copenhagen was only four days out of Liverpool, there remained a distance to cover. Because it was November, 15 according the ships log, conditions might worsen. Even if the weather improved that saw better skies, menace of icebergs remained. Before this consignment of tea to Halifax, Brig Copenhagen had plied the North Sea, that is to say she transported goods between European countries. Such trade was good. Though trade was good, the ship owners wanted still greater profit that could be theirs by taking tea to Halifax and then transporting passengers out of Boston around the Horn to California where gold had been discovered.
