Having lost the battle
My eyes are shut
The dreams are coming
Though I know not what
You're there just as you always are
Just too far to touch
Not being able to reach you
Seems to me to be too much
You turn and look me in the eyes
And take me by the hand
You rub your cheek against it
And say you want me back again
How I've longed to touch your face
To taste your lips, to smell your hair
It's almost as though this is a dream
And you couldn't really be there.
As the thought crosses my mind
You completely disappear
I lie awake, alone, and think
"Oh, God, I hate it here!"
