Was This Ever Love?

Contributed by Malcolmsdreamgirl on Thursday, 15th February 2007 @ 06:04:20 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

I am working hard,.... trying to achieve....
Targets Set for the day..... before I can leave
When I am tapped on the shoulder, and then introduced
A new member of staff, to help figures boost

I sigh because I feel we just won't get a long
And I have to manage her, .....she'll soon be gone!
She's just the type, of girl,.... I cannot stand
Annoying and sulky bit tarty, fake tanned

But I smile as you do, and welcome her in
Set up her computer, a chair, and a bin
Explain to her fully, what we require
Knowing full well, she'll eventually tire

She looks oh so lost now, and the soft side of me
Enquires would she like, either coffee or tea?
She smiles and accepts, then its suddenly lunch
Seems she isn't so bad, so we go for some munch

Time moves on quickly, we become real good friends
Occasionally she's told,... break time ends!
But in general we get along, sweeter than sweet
Then she tells of her new boyfriend, and how they did meet

In a pub, during an England match, they were both very drunk
She turned and saw him ....at the bar, thinking....what a hunk
That was her first mistake, the worst made in her life
The 2nd was even thinking ever being his loving wife

He moved in with her and the children ,of which she then had two
Thats how she came to work for me, him staying, enabling her to
Then one day she phoned, and said that she'd be late into work
She wasn't one for missing days or responsibility shirk

When she came into the office, much later on that day
She told me of the nightmare, abusive words he'd say
The agression, was through words, right now...... torment and mental pain
I begged her to leave this lunatic, not allow him to remain

The next day came and all was well, and love was in the air
She'd forgotton all the verbal said and the pulling of her hair
She went back home and once again, another row did start
He called her sick abusive names, a prostitute a tart ......

He raised his hand and hit her! pushed her through a glass filled door
As she fell her face all bleeding, shocked and bruised there on the floor
Her children crying "MUMMY" but for them she had no ears
Stuck momentarily, in her own world, wiping back the tears

The door slammed and he left again, proceeded to the pub
He'd fill his thirst for alcohol and feed his stomache grub
Not giving her a thought atall, nor the children in distress
As she stood, and tried to comfort them, glass falling from her dress

Her stomach now just churning, her body now in pain
Why oh why had she trusted him? allowed him back again?
She sobbed and sobbed til empty, feeling so alone
Scared of his return now, what state when he'd come home?

She bathed the girls and kissed them, and tucked them up in bed
The turmoil tearing at her heart, the pain within her head'
"Youv'e made your bed,now lie in it " harsh words from those she cared
Phone them now for help once more? was more.. than she ever dared

Then one day she was pregnant, a life inside now growing
He bragged to all and sundry, and watched til 9 months showing
He didn't even stop there, he continued to be obscene
Calling her FAT and UGLY the UGLIEST woman he'd ever seen

The Baby Born a fine Son ... from LOVE? between two souls
This child now unprotected more pain and guilt unfolds
Too late to take a step back now, this life now introduced
Again, he says " I want you now", she runs to him seduced

I needn't go into much more detail, the years that passed got worse
The outward cuts and bruises healed , the inward remain a curse
This man she loved, adored in life, the one that told of his love
The one that spat and kicked at her, the one who'd push and shove

How many times must she fall for this? these claims of undying love he had?
When someone loves, its filled with joy, and good ! ...not all this BAD......?
The wedding booked, the church booked too, the marriage on its way...
That's all she ever wanted, dreamed, to be his wife one day!

But he laughed at her, abused her still, whilst friends sat down and watched on
And still she took the torture given, when she knew she should be gone.
Til one day when he jumped on her, to rip her eyes right out
He pushed and shoved with both his thumbs, the children scream and shout

It took her child, to give her strength, to kick and punch him off
An inner strength she'd no knowledge of, which made her strong and tough
The child now screaming out to her, whilst he ran outside .....away
This was her final reckoning the light ,finally.... seen today

She now realised, that she was insane, with thoughts of him to wed
Her only thoughts of him right now, were wishing he were dead
She fled into a refuge home, for mothers with young child
A gentle silence filled the air, tho children running wild

Within two days he's calling her, told her hed been arrested
Said he'd finally realised. this time that he'd been tested
He wanted his little family back, to love and cherrish all
He promised he would change again, no finger lay atall

She agreed for him to see his son , but a condition there would be
To sign all rights to the home they had, complete to her and see
He agreed, and did so, his needs to see his child.
He returned to see his family, all eager meek and mild

Once again she let him in, tho this time she says its finished
The love and heart she had for him has now but all dimished
I wonder is it "THIS TIME" she will be strong enough to cope
I pray for God to give her strength and life and maybe hope

I daren't think that its all over yet, or begin yet to relax
Incase she falls for his sob story once more, and finally takes him back
There isn't yet an ending, for this dear dear friend of mine
I just hope that she heals and learns THIS MUST BE THE FINAL TIME........

Malcolmsdreamgirl, Now this was awesome as the story in poetic form. I just know there are many girls that will relate with this and hopefully many abusing guys will see that being verbally and physically aggressive is not proper behavior. I hope you know that you are a wonderful author and one I find myself admiring as reading your words of art to me is never tiring. Thank you so much for sharing your love of poetry with all of us and especially for giving us more of you.

Your Dear Friend

This was very sad.. I thought you did a wonderful job writing into this poem though. I don't understand how people can keep going back when they know it will be trouble. I hope that she stays strong and doesn't let him come back..

Take care
Christina

" He raised his hand and hit her! pushed her through a glass filled door As she fell her face all bleeding, shocked and bruised there on the floor " To begin with, I love the tittle, in fact i was compelled by it to read this poem. so i'm reading along when i come to the first phrase up above of yours, so i put it in quotes. That phrase did it for me, intense an
abundant of impact, and sad to say some unsettling childhood memorie. In plain english, your a hell of a writter. wow. count on getting my vote of 5 stars.

I would say 'No' this is about need. Just my opinion but such an intense and sprawling write covering many events the first of which should have been to cast him out. Perhaps other young women will read this and NEVER let anyone raise their voice or be negative no less raise their hands without the immediate and most effective consequence of forced exile and restraining order. They say 'All is fair in Love and War,' well maybe not war.

Peace

I think this poem needed to be the length it is in order to do the narrative justice, which it did, very successfully. It drew me right in and I felt all the raw emotion. It was amazing, I only hope that other women take it to heart (and men too for that matter). Very powerful, a great write,

Dom
