Birthing Insanity

Contributed by Silent-No-More on Tuesday, 6th March 2007 @ 12:30:35 AM in AEST
Topic: sarcasticpoetry

Author's (more rambly) note: About half way through this piece, I realized what I was doing. When I finished, I went scrolling through old writes, having noted that this was somehow similar to a piece I wrote a couple years ago. Some of you may remember "Idiocy" of Apparent Disregard (born 1/18/05). This, it would seem, is his brother... who, sadly or fortunately (I'm not sure which), fared no better. To be honest, I'd much preferred to have presented myself as more loving, but... well... these wicked little beings (Idiocy and Insanity) had to die. I don't know why, but yeh... I'm pretty sure I was supposed to kill them. *smiles sweetly, while smirking [quite a feat, no?]*

Hot and cold, an evil grin
Bites itself to bleed again
A raging fire trapped within
Until the bloody words begin

Wickedness will have its day
Every sin will have its say
Madness dared to stir the fray
Taunting then the come what may

An offering, depraved relief
Set on the page, a poets grief
Torn to shreds as it breached
A red stain on a clean white sheet

The bloody pulp of proclivity
Rivaling truth for its insanity
A nasty child that none would see
Is birthed amid profanity

Bastard son of Yesterdays womb
Carried too long, but born too soon
As cries sliced through the sterile room
To herald its own mothers doom

Drawing sour milk from cold breast
It lied there on her lifeless chest
As both she and it were laid to rest -
Abandoned, hopeless, dispossessed

I truly was emotionally triggered reading this poem for the sheer power it has, particularly the last verses;

"Sucking sour milk from her cold breast
It lied there on her lifeless chest
As both she and it were laid to rest -
Abandoned, hopeless, dispossessed"

Thanks for sharing.

Stumbled on this and had to leave a comment...I think...this is probably the best thing you've ever written. There's such a feeling of disgust and movement and clutching and letting go at the same time. Very real and full. I question the use of "lied" in the last stanza...as I would've used "lay," but I think you may have a reason for using the word you chose.
Carry on,

Props... Very dark, stirring. Like something torn and you want to fix it but you just can't touch it...

This was quite macabre, but very mesmerizing. Don't get me wrong, I loved it! I'm going to look up the other write, also. You lured me in with the lead-in, and caught me fully with the first stanza. Kudos, SNM, Kudos!! And Bravo to boot. ;o]
Peace to ya,
Thumper :o)

You midwifed this effectively bringing to life such discord.
Why did "insanity" cross the road? it was stapled to the chicken.

Well Done

OMG ... snemmers .. that last stanza is .. well hun ... pretty gruesome.

I get where this came from .. and the thoughts surrounding
the "brother" write though. 'Tis exemplary work, my dear. A
MUCH needed regurgitation of thought in order to allow the
more beautiful, winged words to float onto the page, no?

This may have been nasty .. but sometimes you have to dig
around a little to get the bullet out, right? ewwww ... k .. that
is ENOUGH with the imagery.

*just decides to click OK now*

Snemmy,

When I read your author's note the title of this poem's brother did not ring a bell. Then I began reading this and I noticed it was something (slightly) but something of what I read of yours before. Of corse there is also the fact entering my head that there are maybe five poets on this site (one of which is you) who are familiar by the way they write. In other words you could post a poem as someone else and it would be a Silent No More poem. You have a unique and signature style, so maybe I wasn't familiar with the brother of your piece but noticed something similar to another poem of yours. Either way this is fascinating and I am off to visit the brother. If indeed it is anything like this I will be hoping to hear the news about a sister on the way one day?

Yes my dear Snemmy this was a very potent and precisely dark rant, but brilliantly poetic in every way. It brings to mind the idea of the dark muse. The one who must be killed. Yet it seems that for all poets that bastard comes back when we least expect it. It's like one day you are lying in bed and he's peeking through the closet door at you. At first you were scared but now your like "What the heck do you want this time?" And he so innocently peers back at you with those beady red eyes and says "YOU MUST WRITE ME". And then you do, he drinks a glass of milk and goes away to next time. It's a familiar pest.

Still the reason people like you can escape him is you write him into non-existence each time. Therefore not getting stuck in the rut of darkness.

Anyway the opening stanza here is captivating and the final verse of the opening stanza is completely familiar to me. It is a place I have been before (as that silly story above explains I think). I think the most powerful and defining stanza is the third. The metaphorical message within that stanza are many. Stains on clean white sheets, can be interpreted many ways, all of which works itself into the overall meaning of this poem. Thus making that line enigmatic.

Quite a brilliant and wonderful piece as I have come to expect of you.

I have to say, Snembo, that the comments are as twisted and revealing as your poem -so I'll keep it brief, so not to reveal too much (ha!).

The created killing the Creator? the idea/impulse born is always costly, even the bright, shiny ones, but the dark within has to be expunged periodically. Those pesky siblings have a knack of gestating all over again, though.

An engrossing, acerbic and heavily symbolic piece - maybe a d and c next time rather than wait the whooole 9 months (ooops, revealing too much).

Hey, we
hen it just falls out you just kind of have to with it, insane and gruesome or not. I applaud the fact that you didn't try to reign it in and gave it it's head. Sometimes it is exactly what we don't expect. I loved it.

Be well,

Loende
