OLIVER

Oliver is a Great Dane hes roughly 6ft 2
So when hes stands on his hind legs he's probably tall as you!
Me Im only 5ft 2 that makes me well... quite small
But Oliver he doesnt care , he doesn't mind atall

When Ollie was a puppy, of only 9 weeks old
He didn't have a clue ,of doing what he would be told
He'd scamper round the house ,size of an average pup
I remember thinking,.. I just cant wait til OLIVER ..... grows up!

Day by day he grew you know, into his cute li'l body
Big paws, big nose, big ears, and all,..... he looked a bit like Noddy
I think it was kind of over night,... the change it did take place
One minute he was small and cute, the next Right in your face!

We played in the garden once, til he began to choke
I didnt have a clue what was wrong, and down his throat did poke
But there was no need for me to do.... such a drastic action
For what it was that he brought up it needed no extraction

I could not believe my eyes you see, when I looked upon the ground
A GREAT BIG RUBBER GARDENING GLOVE.....That is what I found .....................
It seems he played then swallowed it,he didnt have a clue
What a silly silly pup. such daft thing to do

Now my Ollie's nearly Eight, He's what they call a BLUE
Hes looking very very fine, still young, a pup it's true
they say Danes never ever grow up ,they are so young in mind
One thing I know of Oliver, hes gentle sweet and kind

One day I know the time will come, when hes due to leave my side
I dread that day, although I know, from that I cannot hide
But hes such a gentle giant and yet hes so cute and sweet aswell
You wouldnt know hes 8 you know, I bet you couldnt tell!

If you watch Coronation street...... they have a Dane there too
Hes called a fawn.... that means hes brown,..... Oliver is BLUE
If you ever get to watch that soap, just think of my darling hound
Even tho im probably bias and so soppy maybe sound

Until you've owned a GREAT DANE PUP, you can never understand
How loving, gentle, wonderful they,... are a Giant in this land
I love my darling Oliver, Im sure some of you relate
If you own a dog of you own, he's One fantastic MATE

So here's to you dear Oliver, to keep your memory going
So when your long gone people read how loyal you were and knowing
Our times together walking in the parks and in the fields
running lose and happy from harms way me you would shield.

Ollie you're a cutie, and some dogs for sure I've owned
Never such a fine example, fit, and strong well toned
I wanted once to show you. Im glad I didn't now
You are too special to me, So special Oh and HOW!

Oliver a dog in a million .... heres to all the dogs that have brought us such happiness in our lives

I still have tears in my eyes from reading this, I know the emotions intimately for my own beloved dog was put to sleep a few weeks ago. Thank you for a lovely, if heartwrenching read,

Dom

I can totally relate to this having owned many dogs in my life including a gorgeous Great Dane named Baron! I hope they are playing together in heaven. I'm sorry for your loss....
