Worlds In Difference

I would have
Should have
Could have screamed
And perhaps perhaps I did
My mouth was opened wide
My teeth were laid bare
And everything within me
Wanted nothing so much more
Than to simply expel the taste
Of that very moment
And yes maybe I did
In fact I might have gone so far
As to have deafened all those around me
(and there were people all around)
It could have been that my cry
Caused the deafness I originally attributed
To their blankly staring, calm uncaring eyes
It seemed that no-one heard
There were no consoling words
Not a single show of kindness
Only mindless empty blindness
Yes, I believe I did scream
And while my insides were railing, raging
Wailing, staging war against this
Indifferent world
It suddenly occurred to me
That perhaps it is really not
The worlds indifference
But rather simply
We all live
In different
Worlds

I am speechless about this poem, I read it, listened to it and then read it again before I could form any coherent words about it!
It is, quite simply, stunning and the last stanza expresses a thought I have had before(although far more eloquently than I ever could!)
I loved it, it was thought-provoking and interesting to read, and I enjoyed listeneing to it.

Naz,
Your poems seem so complex to me, I'm never sure if I'm understanding your message; and maybe that is a good thing :(
The world is so expansive, how can we not find what we're looking for...yet maybe that is why we get lost, as the workl is too big. Certainly, there is a lot of indifference.....Our personal world can be too big, confusing; or too small and lonely or boring; or just right for us and satisfying.
Again your format and style is always unique, and very thought provoking.

Wow Scott!
Boy I have used that word alot today, but I only use words I mean. In this "brilliant, magnificent, observant, and thought provoking" piece you have inspired me. But for the moment let me step asside from that. I agree with you we all do live in different worlds. Each of us. This is both unfortunate and very, very fortunate. We can only better understand the world when we understand all the worlds that dwell within it. Yet, at the same time it is tragic that sometimes we are so wrapped up in our own world that we rarely attempt to understand other worlds. It is rare that people give this a thought. We as humans are not just apathetic, but quite frankly we are narcisistic. We care more for what is fair to us, than what is simply fair. I rarely do this but I would like to draw your attention to a piece of mine titled "Sobering Thoughts On Fairness". The sentiments in that piece relate well to your work here.
Enough about me. The flow of this work is amazing, especially when spoken. You are indeed a brilliant performer of the written word. Great Job there as well! Indifference Scott, is what we indeed strive for. We should set ourselves apart. I know the pain of people not hearing you until you "SCREAM". It is a pain and a lifestyle I share. In fact, I would venture to say that most "poets" feel the very same way. Meanwhile it's so disheartening, because most of the world hears you even when you are not screaming, but stays silent because it is something they can ignore easily. Scream, poet, scream! For just because we are all in our different worlds, does not mean our worlds do not need to practice trade of justice, ideal, and opinion from your magnificent world.
A very inspirational write. A subject I wish I had tackled better in my attempts. You have definitely captured a moment, and indifference you have explained well. In this work you allow us to observe this is such a brilliant way. BRAVO, poet, BRAVO! I certainly hope one day you will revisit this subject. I feel there is more in you concerning this idea and would love to read more. Thanks Scott for the observation which has left me this day pondering about my own world.

Scotty, I cannot tell you how many times I have felt the very emotions you speak of in
this write, (and maybe I don't have to, seeing as how you've been such a wonderful
listener ... *winks*) You did an amazing job with this piece. So full of emotion, I could
scarcely catch a breath. And the outcome, to this reader at least, is bittersweet. It's
almost a hugs sigh. Yes indeedly, humans live in different worlds, even unto themselves
sometimes, but it leads us into indifference, which hurts so many. In my own life,
indifference has led to many lonely and sad moments, and I can only imagine how that
indifference would affect us on a global scale .. (though recent national and world
events could be used as an example). I don't think it's too much to ask for understanding
and a certain amount of compassion. *hugs*
Brilliant, brilliant work here, dear poet.

An absolutely brilliant write. So many times I walk through the mall to check and see how many people make eye contact. So very few ever do. Then out of the crowd will come eye contact and a smile. Another soul just as I wanting to know if they are looking for people who do seek at this level of connection. You are right to say you could literally scream to be noticed...so many live in the world of go get..go find..things..whats here for me...it drives me crazy. I feel like tapping them on the shoulder to say hey you..where are you???Are you in there???We don't recognize each others feelings even...and yet they are so simply written on our face. No one wants to know what is behind the pain the joy the discouragement. They just don't give a darn.
A wonderful and awakening piece my friend. As said BRAVO. I loved hearing the feeling behind it in your reading of it. |
