Sometimes I just have to cry. I spent 10 minutes before I left crying As I sat on a bus Waiting to leave possibly for good.
I know not much happened to me directly. Really, it doesnt matter I saw what it was like, With the bodies and the wounded.
Men flocking around the doors, Worry-wrinkled faces under camo, Some praying, one or two maybe struggling, And losing, against tears.
Yeah, theyre tough guys But theyre allowed to cry. Theyve earned it with sweat And blood. And sacrifice.
But the black bags come, DOA, an upsetting acronym In a job full of them. Another body in the corner
Forces us to pause, for a moment. We move on, of course Cant save the dead. Another chopper on the pad.
More soldiers, more civilians, Just more wounded, tag and go. Lost one on the flight, Because of the battle last night.
Sometimes I just have to cry Even though nothing happened to me directly. I know what war is like And what its like to die.

Very touching and heart wrenching but well written.
Again, I'm humbled.

IMPRESSIVE... Your words dripped blood and pain. Yes, they have the right to cry. I'd rather have soldiers who cry, than robots that feel nothing.
Thanks for posting your poem,

Well done, and as others have said, humbling.
War is something so tied in with humanity over the ages, yet a thing we're totally ignorant of in this present day, in our comfortable countries. What a painful perspective to have forced on you, but what a perspective, still.
