The loneliness of the heart To take the dreary path alone. No security of a friend To hold your hand, To guide your feet, To cheer you on your way As you stumble on the dust-covered road. Melancholic days, Each morning a struggle to wake, Tired and gloomy, No light to see, No laughter to hear, The yellowing leaves, Flutter frailly against The cold, north wind. A storm threatens, The vampire within wishes to rise, Yet the soul suppresses it. The chains to freedom! Slowly, weighing, taking a toil On this fragile spirit, Yet to shrug them off, Would mean, A life in the dark, Unacceptable, Unpermittable, Ultimately, self destructive, So , here I lie in wait, Like a farmer during the drought, For a drop of rain, For a helping hand Like a little lost puppy, Cold, wet and hungry For a sign to the way home.
