She reached over and touched my hand asking when the bus would pull in. I told her soon and we didnt have much time. I was reporting for duty in San Diego and this was our goodby.
The Army can be demanding and sometimes it is hard to leave home and face duty. Sometimes I wished I could have the courage to say no to more military life. But Iraq is there and my country needs me.
My little boy was asleep in my lap and I would have to waken him by and by. The man on the speaker called out information telling me it was time to grab my duffle bag. I didnt want to go but Iraq was there waiting.
Jimmy, I said, its time for daddy to catch the bus and leave you and mommy. Give me a hug and be good for you mommy because Ill know if youre not. Take daddys school ring and keep it till I come back.

Beautiful. You told a story well worth telling, and there was no complaining, no anger, no hatred, only much honor. Well written.
Take care, and if this is about you, thank you. You hold our country together

So Beautiful and so simply told. Factual and heart wrenching. |
