The time finally came.
After twelve whole months
Of commitment and dedicating my soul to yours
Its finally come to an end.
A year I spent with my life only to be with you
And together we were for a third of that time.
And my perfect dream, I soon realized
Was never perfect to begin with.
I had pictured something of a fantasy
A happy ever after fairy-tale
But I should have known before openly giving my heart
That it would soon be shattered.
All the pain witnessed from the start
Giving up me in order to make you happy
I should have known better
I should have known better.
I knew it was the end
When I had to give myself up
Who I had always been was suddenly unappreciated
And taken on a negative note
I will never be unappreciated again
I will never be taken advantage of by you or any other man
I will know better before getting in too deep
But most importantly
Before anyone else
I will trust myself first.
