Wolf Pit
Lets take a ride Under the gentle Kentucky rain Its sweeter here I remember you And as the years walk past Leaving with a quick wave as they pass I travel back, back in my head You are as old as the mountains
Sitting on the porch Overlooking the road Hugged tightly by the curve of the creek Fresh rain made it flow And trickle with a murmur At the foot of the mountain Sounds so sweet
Full of sugar Full of sugar, honey Full of sugar, Full of sugar, now
I watched her time trampled hands Knead the dough Need the dough A distraction from his absence
Flour on her brow From where her fingers would meet A stray wisp of white hair loosened from her bun I listened to her mumble the ingredients Her voice was soft and sweet
Full of sugar Full of sugar, honey Full of sugar, Full of sugar, now
After the light Kentucky rain Watching the humming birds Hover around the feeder I was numb to her pain When he left her to sweeten the water Sweeten the water for the birds
Full of sugar Full of sugar, honey Full of sugar, Full of sugar, now
Lets take a ride Under the gentle Kentucky rain Its sweeter here down in Wolf Pit

Nice poem. I myself like the sweet soft rains and memories stay with us till we kick it. bern |
