Dear Son, your steps are taking you
longer and farther from home.
A phase of your life has passed us,
you're free in this world to roam.
We won't bid 'bye to those dear days,
we'll not give them up,... we can't.
Too brief, these treasures God gave us;
the cup of our life is too scant.
Time stole you away with each day;
chores distracted our minds.
Now some tears must fall from our hearts;...
we clutch what memory finds.
What will repay for this rob'ry?
Who can replace this sweet boy?
Tomorrow's adventures will sing...
of the days of a man,... new joy.
Still by some mystical magic,
let us go with you each day;
just tuck us down in your pocket!...
just happy...... to go your way.

Thank you, Christina, for reading and commenting on Your Steps Are Takin You. No, I dreaded that time, too. This boy was my confidant probably too many times. I was depenent on him, but I wanted him to feel he had a broad freedom of choice for his future and not be made to feel guilty. In the long run, he is still very close to me inspite of miles.
