THE SIGNS NEVER ARE A CHANGIN'(Peter Sprenkeler)
Politicians still speak much and yet say so little, Graft and corruption entwined in the halls of power. Greed and hypocrisy are as paramount as ever, The poor and hungryvoicelessmoreso every hour.
Unforgiveness a seldom mentioned word when fingers are pointed, When aggression and violence needs a scapegoat to blame. The same old scenarios always seem to freshly apply, As man goes on with his weaknesses and his foolish games.
Billions are spent in the pursuit of power and wealth, While the sick and the starving waste silently away. A moral absurditycertainly nothing new in all of this, As was yesterdayso it is indeed today.
Bigotry and hatred are as active as ever, Been that way always through our ages. A blood-spattered history in which we pay so little heed, Little justice you will find on the grim and ghastly pages.
So life goes onbusiness as usual, The pathetic sign hangs precariously on mankind's door. We go about oblivious to the awful seeds we sow, Indifference no longer a habitit has almost become a law.
A wise old man once told me a profound fact of life, I've never forgotten itfor it rang in my ears so true. That when you point an angry accusing finger at another, There is always three morepointing back at you!
We have not learned from our mistakes down the ages, It seems we are blindand will not change our ways. The signs don't look goodas we continue to blunder, Mankind lookoutyou are rapidly running out of days!

I enjoyed this poem. You are very right with everything that you have written. I had another friend shipped off to war this morning. When will it all end. Im praying for peace! |
