I never meant to be what i've become. Not in a million years... we only lied and told ourselves that everything would be alright but knowing now what we wish we'd known sooner makes us question existence. hindsight's 20/20, the field of vision has been leveled wipe this slate clean and with the birth of a new day we can start fresh rebuild this empire, only to watch it fall with the first storm. the foundations canyoned long ago rome fell in one day and i suppose you're no better you turned and walked away, shady like i knew you'd be and you didn't ever think it all through with one foot in the grave, the other gone numb i hope you swim with lead shoes

Some of the phrases and ideas in this have been done before enough to lull me into a sense of complacency, like, there is nothing new under the sun. But further reading makes it clear that that's wrong. I really like where you went with this.
Good poem. |

Good write. The more I read, the more I became sucked into your words. Thanks for sharing.
