Afraid

Topic: fictional

Theres no one here to comfort me alone in this big house
And darkness closes in on me like a cat upon a mouse.

The emptiness of all the rooms echo every sound
And down the hall in the master room I hear a heartbeat pound.

I sit alone all huddled up in an old and creaking chair
Eyeing each corner of the room where shadows seem to stare.

Then suddenly at the porch window a silhouette appears
I scream in terror and cry for help as the apparition nears.

Lightening strikes and thunder booms and the white french doors blow wide
But I am rooted to the spot, I can not run and hide.

So I close my eyes and pinch myself to wake from this bad dream
And my crying out for deliverance is but a silent scream.

Then as the clock in the hall strikes one I awake and the noises cease
And now the house is only filled with strangely tranquil peace
.but I am still afraid.
