Go ahead and brace yourself
For the oncoming onslaught
A multi media assault on
What you will have bought
By the time it's all over
To have to make the effort
To shrug it off and shake
The promise that you too
Can have and eat the cake
But by the time it's over
So many people will have
Bought and sold the right
To prove love with money
Without much of a fight
It will soon be over
The misery masked by the colors
The time together will be lost
Behind the empty packages
And all the accumulated costs
And even if it's over
It just doesn't make sense
The more freedom that we accrue
The bigger slaves we become
Invisible masters you answer to
If it could ever be over
You would have a moment to
Sit down and talk to me
Instead of running to and fro
To put your love under a tree
And it's already over.
