I'm sorry to have to tell you, But I'm leaving on a boat today. I could tell you that I love you, But it's not something I have to say.
Don't cry for me, now Water can't wash away those memories I'm losing a little breath So I can't say too many more of these words
You can stay for awhile, now But don't let those young eyes cry again Mine have seen more than you have known More than I care to explain
More war, more children, more laughs Only one thing you've seen firsthand I could tell you more, child But I'm afraid you might not understand
I can't tell you why it's difficult To say these things I've known These things I've felt and forced have torn Right down to my bones
This day is no different Because tomorrow might be here soon And I've only got enough time to tell you To dry up those tears one more time
I've explained all I can So, stay as long as you like But if you leave soon, remember This is my last "goodnight"
I'm sorry to have to tell you My boat is pulling out of the bay I'm going to tell you I love you But it's not something I have to say
