Pre-emptive? It may have been, ere was found
Aces, kings, shrouded till time opportune.
Paradox; dual bids but merely one
Pre-emptive one-off but culmination.
Forget that now, we flashback yet again.
One club. Strange acquiescence after change
Of heart. Five cubed, the hours in total sum
Till chanced (so it seemed) rebid. One notrump.
A score of points surreptitiously screened,
Pass confuses, yet that explains my own.
That fine sad day, that preempt: two, not three
Two clubs. Still far from point of pained return
Awkwardness ensues, weeks of confusion.
Would-be declarer persists in probing
Patiently, gently, quietly, openly.
Two notrump. Do ears deceive? Limiting
Response, long-awaited. Yet not alls well
An enigma, can this entry triumph?
Dark mystery confronts the declarers hand
Discarded leads, subtle signals a void?
Dare the cunning declarer ask himself
Can game be made? Will the contract succeed?
Zeta connection. How effortless, when
Opportunities lay aplenty.
A gigantic circle; mutual mentions.
Finesses marked, doors opened and shut.
Doubts plague, a plethora of questions raised
Queried in Gerber, replied in Blackwood
Past the game level with no safety net,
At long last we stumble into a slam.
