Klondike Addiction

Contributed by UnknownLegend on Sunday, 3rd February 2008 @ 09:53:26 AM in AEST
Topic: happypoetry

I've been a bit too serious as of late ......
I'll leave all these heavy subjects to
the so called brainiacs
and heavy thinkers.....
So lets talk about Klondike Bars
and the finer things of life.
I can it seems,
partake of the many flavors
of Klondike bars,
because my good cholesterol is up,
bad cholesterol is down.
BP is in the hi 90's over low 60's,
I'm 6' and my weight is 157# ...........
and I'm cute as a button...... !
Not really
but ....!!!!!!
I got your attention !!!!!
Anyway...!!!
The lowly Klondike bar made it's emergence
as a square of vanilla ice cream,
with a chocolate shell
and remained that way,
all thru my childhood.
Yeah,
there was the occasional
crunchy shell Klondike,
but for the most part
it remained basic.....!!!!
I remember the debut
of the chocolate on chocolate,
My word.....!!!!!
I thought i was in heaven,
I stocked up on the new flavor
and rewarded myself
with this new delicacy nightly.
But,
I still kept a few of the original around,
for a trip back to the early days.....
that's right,
of my addiction.????!!!!
I got away from Klondike bars for a while....
yeah,
I yielded to temptation occasionally
and bought a box,
but I had kicked the habit
and the high I got
while savoring a Klondike,
had lost it's luster.
Then,
a few months ago,
while cruising the frozen food section,
of the local grocery chain,
I came to the ice cream section,
and I figured,
I'd do a box of Klondikes,
just to make sure
the addiction was truly gone.
I opened the door of the Klondike sanctum
and to my surprise,
they had expanded the flavors.
I realized then and there .....
Klondike wanted me back
and was willing,
noooo desperate ......
to go to no end to do it ...!!!!
Not only did they expand on the flavors....
they were running a BOGO.
(buy one get one .... free)
I hesitated for a moment,
but I knew,
if I touched the first box
there was no stopping me
from getting the free one.
So with trembling hand,
(not sure,
if it was the cold from the freezer,
or that of an addict .....
coming off a long hiatus) ....
I reached for the first box....
Sara Lee Strawberry cheesecake,
drew me like a magnet........!
then the White house cherry .... !
OMG Planters peanut ......... !
Had I died and gone to heaven...?
One by one....
I lifted the boxes out of the freezer.....!!!!!
There was Reese's peanut,
Caramel swirl,
Heath Bar,
Chocolate on chocolate .....
I trembled ......
and slowly filled my basket,
with each flavor
and it's companion BOGO ......!
I had to have them all
and I needed to taste them all...!
Somehow,
while our illustrious law makers
were busy
taking the Bible out of society.
Klondike saw it's chance,
slipped under the wire
and thought
they had the answer
as a replacement.
I was not to be fooled by their ploy .....
nor did I see it as such............
they wanted me back...
plain and simple...!
This plan was directed
straight at me...
from the flavors
to the BOGO special......!!!!!
Where was my protection under the law,
to just say no .....!!!!!
Seems I had waived my rights
and was elbow deep in Klondikes.
Since that day,
I have perused the weekly ads,
pretending to look for ways....
to save a few bucks in my grocery budget,
but down deep
I knew what I was really looking for .......
.KLONDIKE specials....!!!!!
I sit here writing this,
munching on a Reese's klondike,
I have to wonder.....
will I ever be free of this addiction .....????
Well,
I think I have made head way in one area....... !
There are about 10 boxes of
assorted Klondike flavors in my freezer
Butttttttttt ......!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not one box,
of the beloved original.
I guess...................
I truly am cured.......!
