Eyes caked with purple and blue Senses dulled by excessive hair spray Talking, wondering about the regulars Cheap heels clonking across the pavement Sinking into mud Awkwardly stepping over The railroad tracks As breezes disturb the litter scattered And strewn across the ground and Tossed carelessly into lawns For others to dispose of And theyre pretty optimistic Theyll find someone to teach them (How to be held) How to play pool
She comes stumbling And fumbling with her purse Muttering to herself Words slurring together Out of bars thick with smoke Floors sticky with booze And saturated with hopes Forgotten and drowned in dirty glasses And replaced by awkward passes Made at each blurred face that lingers And hangs around late On this particular night Over the railroad tracks Hoping to God (Please pass out here.) That next time her makeup Wont smear
