Chemical Love.

Contributed by bleedthelove on Wednesday, 13th February 2008 @ 05:33:28 AM in AEST
Topic: drugabuse

You can call me an addict
Because the reaction time to the needle
Is semi-automatic
Like a fully loaded handgun
I have fallen for one of the most
Dangerous things under the sun
A simple way to restrain the pain
And the feeling is something I just can't explain
Only an addict can understand
I am a slave to the needle following a command
When I'm killing myself is the only time I feel alive
I need that escape, that chemical love to survive
Gaze into my vacant eyes
As my tortured soul floats through toxic skies
Injecting myself away from this living hell
I watch my soul hover above my empty shell
And in those moments I feel okay
Let the blood push it through me as I fade away
I guess I'm weak, but there was nothing I could do
Because no matter how hard I tried
The pain and sadness just wouldn't subdue
Now the tip of my needle bares a reflection of you
Angels won't move me, oceans won't soothe me
Feel you in my heart as the poison runs through me
Like a broken angel falling from a blood red sky
Cross out my eyes so you can't see me cry
I never wanted to be this way
I only wanted the pain to go away
Now I'm caught inside the stream of harm
Counting my days by the marks on my arm
A gun and a needle both ready to reload
And I'll never forget the last time I kissed you goodbye
Before I left to travel this dark, lonely road...
To nowhere.

I have known many addicts. and I have watched most of them die. Don't let that happen to yourself bleedthelove. as for this poem, you always manage to wrap the reader in your emotions.

best wishes and many prayers,
JJ

With this poem, I think it is important to resist the temptation to rhyme. It is effective in the first three lines but in other places it looks like rhyming for the sake of rhyming. Good job anyhow.

Cheers!

Nice write....sad and beautiful and the rhyme made it flow and move nicely.....Some amazing lines in this poem, especially 'As my tortured soul floats through toxic skies'....very good work.....
