leave the man
alone, perhaps . . .
though we are never quiet alone.
still fitting,
if we choose.
there is no end . . . without an end.
also no prelude.
his heart-shaped box
is somehow wanton
& fragil . . . now . . .
behold.
in multitudes
the emptiness,
the nothingness it grows.
it seems to take up
all the room
& makes the air seem hot.
the space about the emptiness
seems sometimes
what it's not . . .
forget the words, time & again
you thought you heard him say.
it's not the speech,
always the voice
that time pretends . . . decay.
thin thread
do nimble fingers play.
unraveling truth, it falls away
& to & fro, the haunting tune
my harp-strings' death
before the noon . . .
before the shadows' cast
ado.
no tremor now, at all, for you.
our discontent at last,
now through.
my issues sheltered
by the throne.
we're not alone . . .
. . . we're not alone
although my halo
appears intact,
reclaimed, askew . . . unkept
sitting among
the daffodils
I thought of you
& wept.
profound & painful
as we drift.
too far are we from home . . .
to find & mend,
my long, lost friend.
we're not alone . . .
never alone . . .
