Tired sighs poured into the golden fields As sun-browned bodies struggled to toil The melancholic cadence of their earth songs Drove little arrows of guilt into the universe
Their blackened nails soothed ripe grains And calmed their submission to the plundering Slaves and produce at the Masters altar File in their wares jaded to the debauched
Hollowed out bodies boned to the skin Rasp feeble prayers and stare empty-eyed Lashed and toyed at on a savage whip Withered souls resign to mouth silent screams
A handful of grains for the nubile young As bodies are ravaged and bartered for a roof Bitter tales of survival of a burdened race Sleepwalking in despair, pressing to endure.
