I Went Swimming Today

A girl with your body, your
face yet not quite so. The cheekbones cutting
out her eyes like the razors we cut our presence with,
your eyes with the pupil reflecting in them
-you taught me so much when I looked at you.
On the dirty bed when your voice like the broken
guitar strings
in a love song escaped from its confession,
when the frilled fingers feeling the soft
fragrance of the entry to your soul
you once mentioned. And they,
they melted your wax cocoon
we shared,
you outstretched your wings obediently to touch upon another flower
after hatching in my sickly marsh.
I had always been the plastic mermaid in your panties.
