Shadows Against the Sun

Contributed by nvn_jacobs on Tuesday, 8th April 2008 @ 02:41:28 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

It must be spring fever,
We are all warm inside.
It feels like all we do
Is chase each other.
We run around in circles
Like chickens without heads.
We try and receive
That one sense of direction,
Only to help us realize
We are running opposite directions
From those we love.
That would explain the cold,
As if we have been
Shadowed against the sun.
We all live in the shadows of life,
Only to be critized
By love itself.
And struck by Cupid himself.
Against all odds,
We feel completely superior
Like we are all invincible.
But most of us aren't.
So in return,
We feel invisible.
We are only seen
By those who want it.
By those who want us.
With them we are like
Flashlights against the landing gear
Of an airplane.
We go from invisible,
To brighter than the sun.
And for those people
We'd walk through the sun.
To get there faster,
We would not walk around
But instead straight through the middle.
We would reappear as shadows,
Still carrying that feeling
Of love and warmth.
To find that person,
We would search the world.
Only to quickly speak,
Those three simple words:
I love you.

I love free verse; just sitting there and letting it all pour out without restricitng it; this is really breautiful, and the half-rhyme at the end (world/words) really wrapped it up well, very good, thank you,

I love this poem and the metaphors within. Great free verse and bravo. I have not yet attempted free verse myself, something about it intimidates me and because of that, I do not feel like a true poet. But I continue to be inspired on here, so maybe I will eventually give it a shot... Great job.
