As A Friend

Contributed by Dragons_Of_Rose on Tuesday, 30th July 2002 @ 06:27:22 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

We chat on occasion about this and that
On the phone I dare not for your voice brings it all back.
You tell me of Hilary and how you're using her as a friend
To get to her roommate and then the friendship you can end.
I told you good-luck and to be careful not to get hurt
Back to my closed up self you had me divert.
Little do you know that it shot me full of pain
For I know now that I'll never have your heart again.
The reality of things can be so hard
Thoughts of you I need to learn to disregard.
Pretending to not love you is harder than it seems
Often lying awake at night to avoid seeing you in my dreams.
Watching you love another gives my heart a bruise
But as a friend I stand by you in anything you chose.
My heart's still yearning to be yours once more
So I'll lock it away and hide it behind my door.
To show you my feelings is the worst thing I could do
So I'll shove everything back and hide those away too.

Reality does hurt. The thought that you are never to be is hard to accept.
