moment of good-bye

there is no doubt, I'm gathering pardons. . .
you mesmerized & so lured me to love.
fearful, I neglect forgetting.
softly, I withhold the breath. . .
the one that counters what I imagined,
the air of what I can't accept.
my attention, oh so shunning. . .
I regress. . . as quivering decisions
parade their offerings,
one by one. . .fanged & venom
dripping. . . dripping.
silhouette of one undone.
blind appendage. . .
my concept of discontent,
well spun, well spun.
no antidote, beware denial.
no trapdoor escaping.
no self-defense. I must beware.
your battle scars, disguised as pleasure.
sinking deeply. . . mindset pretend.
your war, not with me,
though I'm wounded.
I know your quarrel is with yourself.
defending your needs
that lie sprawled, gasping
bordering towers, filled with pain
& endless smirking, lusting monsters,
resurrected in loves' name.
I caress the sweetest wisdom. . .
lure it home. make it my own.
likely I'll become its' prisoner.
embraced in wisdom. now alone.
to what end will I surrender?
. . . ?
bound. . .I fear the thought of you.
binding. clinging. my head trauma,
my neurosis resembles you.
leaving marks with your abrasion.
ill. distressed & calculating.
blame, your witness at our parting.
wincing. squinting. pointing finger. . .
sabotage leaves residue.
I forgot I ever loved.
seconds. . . passed.
I forgot to say farewell. . .
you kept close friendship
with indifference,
then it befriended me, as well.
mist of ten thousand tears
attending.
I wait on grace.
strained by waiting. . . my belief.
I contemplate the loss of promise.
the price of holding onto grief.
it's not for want of happy ending
nor for lack of deep blue skies.
I simply need to fade completely
into the moment of our good-bye.

Wow! Line after line I found myself thinking, "I could have written this."

These emotions are so familiar that it is more like a recalling a memory than reading.

These lines especially resonated with me:

your war, not with me,
though I'm wounded.
I know your quarrel is with yourself.

I contemplate the loss of promise.
the price of holding onto grief.

I'm glad you pointed me to this, and glad I had the opportunity to comment on it.
