take it like a man take it like the man you said your father was
when you said he was thrown in jail
for all the things he loved
he left you often, a boy all on your own
bound to a house, all alone
not knowing what to do, you curled your toes, you didn't go anywhere, a boy all alone.
you moved in with your relatives who wouldn't let you leave
they worked you, you had money, but it did you no good, see
they wouldn't let you leave.
and the world around you became everything you never wanted it to.
and you began to be what everyone expected of you.
you are your father's son, though you say you will be nothing like that man
you already are everything he is and more..and it was all in your hands
