It is not enough
to hear those words spill from your lips
like a greeting to a passerby
completely insincere and devoid of feeling.
It is not enough
to feel your closed mouth on my face,
to feel you pressed into my own tear stained cheeks
lacking any real passion,
a kiss you might have meant for your mother.
It is not enough
to say words that cannot be felt,
Words that should penetrate and settle
deep in the pit of my stomach,
words that I should breathe in like air.
You will not even scratch the surface.
