Steps follow like a furtive specter, Hushed steps and flitting eyes Begin their enterprise To hector.
This pace, business-cursory, A sprint trafficked, droned out, and walked, A walk that echoes of being stalked, Is only corporate hurry?
Look behind me -- nothing but a mirage -- I feel the poignant telescope, And I have falsely hithered hope. This illicit espionage
Is only the taut, contrite Air of someone who was there And never gave a care, Like the dashing night.
I had wanted gleaming eyes, Had made a whirring fuss, Felt somewhat self-conscious At the prospect of some spies.
But was only disappointed By the elevator hum, By the steps fated dumb Behind the door double-jointed.
