Pastel Christmas

Contributed by wizard on Sunday, 17th August 2008 @ 11:26:25 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

A flakeless eve of losing hope
No sleigh bells ring to help one cope.
Both tears and raindrops trickle down;
Evoking such a bitter frown.

The tree and floor beneath left bare,
Stockings hung, but without a care
Milk and cookies, but no need,
A list made, but no one to read.

Drifting off, hope disappears
As it has for so many years,
Glasses clink as swears are thrown;
Screams exchanged, memories sown.

If but a kiss, even unwrapped,
Or a hug to feel less trapped...
A simple tale of what was not
Could have defined why they forgot.

A sleepless night just like the rest
As Santa flies upon his quest.
Tonight this chimney needs him so;
Of course it will again be no.

This is heart wrenching. The disappointment is momentous when parents fail to think of their child before themselves. No matter the timing of the poem, I think it would have put a bit of a damper on other's Christmas cheer if they read it in December (gentle smile). Another reminder of why we do it better when it's our time to be parents.

The emotions just flow from these verses...
Great job.....even at this time...

If I can get him to come my way, I'm gonna tell him to head straight off to you!

I can really feel the weight of countless disappointments, so sad but well wrought.
