Non-Fiction

Contributed by The_Phantom on Sunday, 28th September 2008 @ 04:56:41 PM in AEST
Topic: Patriotic

To those that have fallen, and those to follow,
To those that made it but still feel the sorrow,
A country at war, as the goverment hides behind doors,
Fighting for freedom but it's not ours,

It's not our land, just a country ruled by an iron hand,
It's losing it's grip but the fighting presist,
Vietnam we lost 55000, Iraq and Afganistan 5000+ gone,
How many more must be lost, what will be the final cost,

Yes I'm a soldier, and yes I fight, many disagree and that's your right,
I've lost alot of brothers and sisters during this war, and it scars me to the core,
To the familes of those that don't return, I can't begain to know how it burns,
I may not agree with this fight, but to those that are gone I pray the Lord holds them tight,

I've fought and will go again, I pray the Lord to forgive us of our sins,
To those that protest that's alright, please don't take it out on the soldiers, we didn't pick this fight,
We go where were told, and we do our best,
So please surpport our troops, and God bless.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

Wow. This was done so very well! I am impressed with not only the message
but the way in which you chose to present it. Regardless of the war or what
opinions any of us hold, you are right in that the men and women who lay down
their lives EVERYDAY are not to blame. It is such a touchy and controversial
subject, but you've tackled this with a gentle and inspiring skill.

Well done, poet!

a wonderfully written, yet sad piece here. All of our hearts are with those who hav fallen, and also those who are fighting this war. I always found war to not be the best solution, and maybe u havent either, and it sux ur forced to battle at the cost of ur own life. but i salute to u! without u guys, we'd probably hav terrorism reigning over us rite now. may God keep u safe. take care

It is always something magnificently humbling to see a war in the eyes of a soldier. We, citizens feel we actually know what we are saying, but it is only you who actually know. You know more than the politicians who sent you there and the ones who want you to leave. It's a debate that in my opinion would be better addressed if we were presented the thoughts of those who gave all and those who are within a conflict practicing faithful with the knowledge that tomorrow may bring sacrifice. One a soldier is willing to give much more than any citizen.

God Bless you and thank you for your loyalty to what you represent. It doesn't matter what side any of us are on, we should always be on the side of the soldier.

Here's hoping no matter what the outcome you and many more like you return to your homes safely and with open arms!

BRAVO!

SCM

This brought a few tears to my eyes.
My husband was in the airforce so I do know the story of war first hand.

I do not want this war but I do support our troops and anyone who does not shame on them.

I want you all home safe and sound the war ended.
I hope this happens soon.

I do know you all do what you are told to and I know how much hurt you are enduring.

Please be safe and come home soon.
I salute you my friend I do and prayers are with you always.

Huge hugs
Michelle

The day I heard war was officially declared, I was so hurt and angry. I started crying. At the time, I happened to very much care for and adore people who would be over there. I don't want anyone there because I know I am not the only crying person. Somebody's dad, mom, brother, sister, son, or daughter is out there. Or maybe just a really great friends, but those are family when push comes to shove. Maybe i just wish bloodshed was not what this world decided was the answer. Either way, I hope your words are heard loud and clear! I applaud you and this powerful message! And I'd love to see the troops come home. And yes. You are right. Vietnam was awful on those who were around to remember it. My dad was heartbroken. Many did not come home, Phantom. What was worse though, was the effect on the ones who came home. They were not the same. These people are really out there in Hell, guys. I do not believe this war is an exception at all. Just the other day, I had to cheer up a friend cause his buddy is coming home in a box. His dad won't really talk.  Never mind cheering up a friend, but I mind burying one.Take care PhantomAnd thank you againGreat to see you againfor more reasons than oneKara

Fighting for freedom but it's not ours,

OMG, that line freaking speaks volumes to me. Not to say the rest of your poem doesn't but wow.... that immediately grabbed my attention.

There really isn't much I can add to this. You have said it all very well. The feelings of pain and sorry. And yes, we should support our troops. I most definitely do. They asked me on myspace who are my heroes. As I do not idolize anyone, the only answer I could give was "Every one of our soldiers who are overseas and otherwise.". You are all heroes!!!!!

Tim
