SURRENDER TO THE INEVITABLE

A YEAR BANGING ON HER EMOTIONAL WALL'S DOOR,
SHE AND I SEEMING CONSTANTLY AT WAR.
TRY AND TRY AGAIN TO TOUCH THAT DAMAGED HEART,
FAILURE THE REWARD AGAINST A SOUL TORN APART.
REACHING ACROSS A GULF SO GREAT,
FAILURE WAS EASY TO ANTICIPATE.
WHEN EACH NEW WALL WAS REACHED,
MORE LOVE DYED IN THE WALL'S BREACH.
WALLS SO HIGH STRETCHED FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE,
FILLED US BOTH WITH PAIN UNALEVIATED BY ANY PLEA.
NOW I SURRENDER AT LAST TO WHAT MUST BE,
THERE IS NO TIE, NO SAFE HARBOR TO BIND HER TO ME.
NO LONGER STRENGTH TO AGAIN TRY TO LIFT THIS LOAD,
I CAN DO IT NO LONGER, NO LONGER TRAVEL THIS ROAD.
SHE GOES ON LEAVING WREAKAGE IN HER WAKE,
AND CANNOT POSSIBLY KNOW HOW BIG HER MISTAKE.
LOVE SHE WAS GIVEN FROM THE START,
YET AFTER ALL THAT HAPPENED SHE STANDS APART.
CARING, AFFECTION ARE ALMOST GONE AS IS TRUST,
MISTRUST, AND LIES ARE ALL THAT IS LEFT IN THE DUST.
