'Til The Very End

Here's a story of two boys
To their mothers, proud and joys
They were neighbors, and best friends
"Until," they promised, "'til the very end."

They started high school in the fall
And by spring, they knew it all
A world of drugs, sex and sports
Whatever happened to tag and forts
But they remained close despite
Separate struggles, separate fights
One of them lost their way
And called the other on a summer day
A white bottle, a shaking voice
He believed he had no choice
His friend begged him to come around
And finally the pills were put down
The friend came over, sick with fright
The other cried into his shoulder all night
It took awhile for him to heal
And the other was shocked to feel
A compassion, love that demands
Something that shouldn't be felt for a man
He was too scared to even try
So he kept it hidden deep inside.

A year passed, he couldn't forget
And soon he really did regret
A knock on his door, late that night
And he answered it; to his delight
There stood the man from his dreams
Neither could forget, it seems
They talked for hours, stayed up all night
Felt so great to smile so bright
Then it happened, imagine this
So suddenly, lips against his
His breath caught, he couldn't speak
In those arms, he felt so weak
They acted well, they didn't show
Until the friend said he had to go
A hand reached out to grab his sleeve
A soft plead; "Please don't leave."
So they stayed together that night
And more happened, out of sight
Lips bitten, eyes slipped closed
Skin touched, removing clothes
Later that night, they lie awake
One tryin' to ignore the ache
Legs tangled in the sheets
Countin' each time his heart beats
"I promise, " his friend said
"One day we will be wed.
And until that day, my friend,
I will love you, 'til the very end."
