i think of you uncle john

Contributed by fortunesdancer on Tuesday, 17th March 2009 @ 03:40:26 PM in AEST
Topic: war

i see you stand among your brothers
unyeilding and proud
you stand in the face of certanity and march to its end
doom stands before you and yet you willingly fight
whilst others flee in fright
i see you march against death
in the height of battle
the guns rattle
screams
tears
no surrender
unquestionable odds
unquenchable urge to flee
but you are proud
your freinds fall before you
you bound to join them to
will you turn
never
will you surrender
never
will you cry in pain never
no! you will not
you are english
you are a soldier
remember that take it to your grave
and you shall die with pride in your heart
as you die before your flag
you are ripped a sunder
in a thunder of bullets
you fall in the feild of ypres
an immortal memorial
of futility
you are unknown
amongst the known
lost
forgotten
unimpotant
and i promise one day
on that day in may
i will remember you
your sacrifice will not be in vain
no longer
a tag
or
a number
or a pawn in political chess
you will matter amongst the unimportant
you can stand and be counted
you can be at peace

Very, very passionate write =). It almost brought a tear to my eye, knowing, but never truly grasping, the things that soldiers have to go through. It's more than just a battle with their bodies, but a battle with and within their hearts and minds. Nice work =).
