Tonight
I fall asleep with hope
The unanswered hope of every other night
The one reason I sleep at all
The one reason I continue on
I fall asleep hoping this night will be different
Tis night will be good
Restful and happy,
I fall asleep hoping for dreams
Dreams of bliss (removed)
Of innocence (forgotten)
Of beauty (destroyed)
Of simplicity (mangled)
Of glory (purged)
Of love (shattered)
And of ease (tormented)
Dreams without hate
Dreams without fear
Or horror
Or harm
Dreams without terror
Dreams without alarm
Or tension
Or stress
Dreams that create comfort
And assurance and solace
These are the dreams I hope for
These are the dreams I want

Yet these are the ones that evade me
And are replaced with hellish nightmares
That end in paralyzing screams
