So it's been a long time since I've posted anything here, but I'm writing a poem a day in honor of April being national poetry month, and I think I'll have one or two to spare, so they might as well go here.
The Dead Arts
The night is late and I labor over a dead art.
Poetry, they say. They say it mockingly. Poetry.
The obsession with bees, wild flowers and old sages.
What have you got your head stuck into?
They don't realize that one can listen to bees
and discover the reason we are alive.
They use flowers to get sex these days
and sages were named after wild shrubs, too
because they knew to listen close to the sigh
that the wind made when it touched them through and through.

I might be the only one, but I find your authors note to be a little harsh.
That said, it's good to see you posting again.
I can't say that this really hit me like some of your past ones have, it doesn't have that same POW, that some of my favourites really show, but it's still powerful in its use of language (simple, slightly disjointed, but straight forward) and I love how clear the message is.
I think the problem isn't that poetry is dead, it's that the people who try to write it aren't really alive.
But then, that's just my opinion.
Good write, Andrew, it's nice to see you here.

I don't know who "nobody" and "they" are, so I guess I'm a bit clueless. Not sure I can really be described as belonging to any one certain group anyway.
But yeah, you most certainly do write on things I want to ponder.
Nice to see a new poem from you and I certainly look forward to more.

Anndra....I believe that you are in MST3K withdrawal...too many innuendos. Dirty. Still, I can roll like that when I have to, so here goes...
Loved the opening. Why is it that poetry, like vampires, seems to prefer the night?
I can't say that I've stopped to listen to the bees...since I'm allergic and generally run, but there is truth even in that. I HAVE listened to the the sigh though. I love the sigh. The other night I slept outside, under the stars and let that sigh ground me again. I think that if more people did that, they wouldn't have their heads stuck in useless places.
So, all in all, even though this piece was not really your standard tread, if you will, you point out some things that are important to remember. And bees not-withstanding....I liked it. Thanks for not just lurking and for still plying the forgotten art.
Be well, little brother,
Love,
~dawn |

I wish that you would post more Andrew.
because they knew
to listen close
to the sigh
that the wind made
when it touched them
through and through.
I do listen to the sigh, not only of wind but of nature in her own right. Then I do try to write about it, LOL but never find the depth you do within your verse.
I like,
hugs you
Michelle

Reading poetry means so very much to me. There is no way I could summarize it in a comment. But, your poem was well stated. I loved your thoughts on bees. You know someone once thought that bees shouldn't be able to fly because their wings were too small in relation to their bodies. The magic that is in nature and what we see with our eyes, is what lives in the heart of a poet. It's that magical way of writing words. Words that a reader who may not even know the poet/poetess writing - finds themselves moved, absorbed, enlightened and mesmerized by words.
You did very well with this one.

You must live close to some cruel folks.
Glad to see a new post from you Andrew.
Great writing as always.
I'm alergic to bees too but I can walk under my plum tree when it's covered with bees but they never bother me. Ofcourse I know you gotta give um a reason to sting.
In credible work.
The simple things in life is what keeps me happy. Most folks are just to busy to stop and smell the roses.
Big huggs, smiles, blessings, good poetry,
emy

I truly believe what you said is true, Andrew.
Surprize! this old poetry maker is back, and good as new at 72!
Write your beautiful poetry, not for anyone else.......but especially for you!
Poetry comes from our hearts, they're like our "heart's throbs" or Heart's thoughts"
Once you have started writing them..........you're never through!
So glad to be back and able to read your "Heart's Thoughts" again and again....
Warm love,
Lovingcritters
consue
I stopped writing because I was very ill (Diabetes) Andrew, and I'm glad you're coming back still! |
