During your absence Time melted all around me And the sun rose and set Upon my need to see you again My memory tried to stay accurate But the erosion of time caused holes in the picture I could do nothing more But collate a haphazard portrait of your face The eyes, nose, hair, mouth Everything about you Was nothing but a poor substitute When compared to the original before me A surreal image that could only be a dream I was rendered numb with shock Unable to speak Unable to control my rapidly beating heart My careful plan to react with indifference Precariously balanced on stilts Frozen with indecision It would be my choice to let it fall One extended gaze was all it took And without consciously choosing I flung open the drawers of my soul Baring my true feelings For you and the world to see
