Firestorm A poem by Peter Rowe 20/02/2009

We sat and watched for days,
Visions that made us choke,
Victoria was ablaze,
It bought tears to the toughest blokes.

Black remains and lives destroyed,
Houses burnt to the ground,
Cars melted where they stood,
No longer make a sound.

Historys gone in the blink of an eye,
Generations burnt,
So many people should not have died,
How many lessons learnt?

A baby cries out, its mothers gone,
Left alone and scared,
She never had time to get out,
She had no choice, she fled.

Weve not seen anything like it,
Lets hope to God we never do,
Our countrys been to hell and back,
I know I cried, how about you?

Scars take time to heal,
The blackened land will too,
Loved ones whove perished,
Cherished memories to me and you.

Like many Aussies before them,
Theyll start all over again,
Pick up their shattered lives,
And slowly theyll begin.

God please dont let us forget them,
When the headlines have faded away,
Keep their tears and stories in out hearts
For eternity from this day.

I haven't heard of this, yet, until now. This is terrible... :(
But this poem is amazing. It's great. Yet sad.
Good work.

I wasn't aware of this but this poem is a lovely tribute to the dead, Less of a measured masterpiece and more of a wonderfully poetic tribute to those lost in the firestorm, i loved how you describe how your people will continue on, it shows there strength and will power. Well done, sorry for you collective losses and keep up the writing OK!!!

yes, i heard about them a few weeks back on the BBC, but the media is never interested in the aftermath, only the devastation. i wish Victoria all the luck in the world in its regeneration efforts. a strong, powerful, passionate write.

I followed this on the news for about two weeks and was horrified with it... I could not even begin to imagine the pain and loss felt by so many.
I hope that your people can pick up the pieces of their lives and move on again.
BTW, good write.
Jenni

I had also followed this on the news, it is so sad.
This poem is a beautiful way to express your feelings.
It is well written.
I am so sorry this happened to all of you, blessings to all of you.

Hugs
Michelle
