The Forgotten Ones

Contributed by thewizard on Thursday, 23rd April 2009 @ 11:32:40 AM in AEST
Topic: toughstuff

An orange glow, from street lamp
Under dark skies, the air so damp
Sat in doorways, under glowing light
No place to go, on cold winter's night
Street urchins, wandering around
Searching for shelter, none to be found
On our heads fall, showers of rain
What we would give, to be wanted again
All we ask, is a place to call home
Not on streets, we constantly roam
We want to be safe, in from the icy cold
Nothing but trouble, we're always told
We're not all bad, really quite kind
If only people listened, answers they'll find
We are someone's daughters, someone's sons
Yes we are homeless, the forgotten ones

Okay this is really sad and has got me choked up. Unless it is by choice, absolutely no one should have to be homeless...but especially children.

You took a subject so seldom written about and I thank you for that.

Take care,

Tim

I have tears,
this poem just breaks my heart, bless you for
reaching into your heart and feeling the pain of the homeless and the homeless children.
You shared this and I thank you.

It is so damn sad, and it is a terror inside one heart and soul.

Michelle

Very touching poem. I think it gives a necessary reminding to readers that there are many unfortunate people who are both homeless and forgotten. Excellent job with the poem.
