torn away again
by the despair of the past
i block you out
as i descend
into the hell i can't leave behind
helplessly, you watch me
eat myself alive
gnashing at tender flesh
with the teeth made of what is
left behind
when i look at myself
there is no mask to hide behind
there is no lie that i can tell myself
to make it all seem alright
there is nowhere to hide
from all the things that i've
left behind
blocking you out
i don't want your help
i'll deal with this on my own
but i never deal
i can only postpone
nothing is reconciled
nothing is better
everything festers behind me
waiting to be sparked back to mind
by a fragrance
a place
or a song
haunting fragments of all that was
left behind
don't you see
it will always be there
nesting in the back of my mind
my only fear
is that one day it will appear
with such strength
that it is you who will be
left behind
