Running constantly running
Never getting to my future
Never out-running my past
Running a straight path
Going in repeating circles
Never stopping for a breath or water break
For fear that my past may catch up to me
Out of breath and out of luck
Blisters forming on my feet
Yet I continue to run from my oncoming defeat
I had started my run with confidence
Then I ran in shear defiance
Now I run cause I fear what is behind me
Terror ruling me so far that I don't bother to look behind me
I don't know how I could let my emotions get me this way
I know if I keep running I'm the one who will pay
I could end it all with my silver blade
But if I do that the memory of me will fade
So I stop running and turn to face my past
Staring down my fears
All my loved ones stay with me till the last
Live or die I will hold close everone I hold dear
I will stand waiting for the past
May the Lord help my fears
As they fall beneath the shadow of hatred I cast

Great poem. In my experience, the only way you can stop running from your past is to turn around and face it straight on. Unfortunately, it is something that follows you wherever you go. It is a hard thing to do though.
