I laid waiting Wakened by the intrusion I didn't see the monster in the closet Couldn't open my eyes wide enough
I breathed in heavily Sighed and let it out But he slid into my bed A forked tongue caressing my doubts
Sick with slime, he pressed against me Unaware of his slithering tail whipping to and fro Beneath the sheets he hid the reality of his demons His wicked concealed in trust and need
I hadn't thought myself to be particularly fragile Nor naive Until another ripped the sheets from the bed and exposed the snake He wrapped his coils of guilt and pity Strangled, smothered...
Broke open my chest until my heart lay bare Fondled it gently with intent And squeezed
I never knew there was a monster in the closet Didn't know that his coils wrapped around me at night Couldn't open my eyes wide enough to see my gaping chest and need A bare heart beating for it's abuser
I laid waiting.....
