The sun is setting on the evening news Its six oclock
She says hello through eyes of winter His words are quiet and handsome Hes been here before but its been quite a spell She recognizes his face in a far away hell
The cigarette burns through her good looks As she takes his order of loneliness His smile offers complimentary thanks As she strolls back to a tired river bank
Shes the best looking waitress at Dennys He works his days and drinks his nights He wears that jersey for the rest of his life Shes got 2 babies but is still not a wife
Her make-up covers up the last thirty years His glory days are at the bottom of a glass He takes a swallow and waves for the bill She hands him the change thats been standing still
The day has quieted to an evening moon Its sundown
